Attack on Titan the Movie...the gore is real
HellOOOOOO! Welcome to Cultures Compendium of Reviews! I'm Culture Shock. Your guide to all things cultural in Equestria and beyond.
In today's review we move outside the territory of pastel colored ponies to the often dark and gritty world of live action anime films. Now before we get started let me cover a couple of rules. Any opinions expressed in this review are my own personal interpretation. They are not meant to alter the personal opinion of others nor the majority opinion altogether. If any of you are interested in watching the film I recommend that you do not watch it around younger audiences as it does contain certain content not suitable for children. With that out of the way let's get started. Shall we?
Attack on Titan the Movie: Part 1. The first thing is that considering past anime and game live adaptations its no given that the film would stray from the original story. That being said a small part of me doubted the legitimacy of thr film. Boy was I wrong. Blending raw action, drama, and gut wrenching gore the film definitely exceeds expectations.
Right at the beginning we're introduced in the same way as the anime. We meet three of the main story focuses. Or in this case future Titan meals. I of course am talking about Armin,Mikasa, and Eren. Unlike the initial series we aren't treated to Erens lazy Saturday. Instead Mikasa and Armin find our future weapon x being the adventurous explorer he is. For some thats about the closest the film will actually get to the original series outside of the character names.
The major point I give this film is the scenery. Long before the films initial release it was hinted that the movie would be filmed in China(could be way off and its in Japan or Korea). The crews set forward and did an overwhelminly amazing job capturing the old world culture of Asia while combining it with a steampunk fantasy element. Definitely an artistic sight to behold. Now we get to the only actual part that sorta irked me. The movies storyline. One of the biggest threats to any movie is anything related to the storyline. It can range from bad narration, awful dialogue, terrible representations,or in this films case...being hard to follow. While the story wasn't initially bad for an adaptation it didn't neccessary stick to solid chain of events. Many scenes ended only for the film to jump on a completely new route. Barely giving viewers a chance to keep up. While the gore filled action scenes kept us watching all the way through a solid storyline would have definitely been an even greater improvement. All in all for what its worth I enjoyed this film. While the storyline was a tad confusing at first the film lived up to expectations. Would I reccomend this film to others? Of course! Granted you are old enough and not faint of heart. In the end I give Attack on Titan The Movie: Part 1 a whopping 9/10. Well that about wraps up this review.
