Heartbreaker by ItsJustSteve
HELLO EVERPONY and welcome back to Cultures Compendium of reviews!!! As always, I am Culture Shock. Your guide to all things cultural in Equestria and beyond. In todays review, we'll be studying something a bit more down to earth yet a lot more relatable. However, there are a FEW rules to go over before we get started. First off, all content within this blog is expressly the opinion of its author. It does not, nor should it EVER, reflect the overall opinion of the fandom. Lastly, if any of you notice ANY mistakes, be it typos or othersise, please DO NOT hesitate to let me know. With that said, let's begin. Shall we?
Heartbreaker is a slice of life high school romance drama written and animated by ItsJustSteve. An upcoming minecrafter on youtube. The story follows the life of a young introvert, Marina Wells, as she navigates life in and out of high school. Altogether dealing with a dysfunctional family, bullying, and a crumbling love life do to a painful past. Will she manage to pull herself together and farge a brighter future? Or will the shaodws of her past prove to much for her?
Okay, let me start of by usually pointing out that I dug this series. It might not be a fantasy type series like I usually like but so much of it is easier to relate too or agree with. Essentially, the whole thing takes place in a mincraft city called Beckville and features a decent cast of characters. Each one portraying a different, yet unique, archetype to look out for. You've got the jock, the queen bee, her sidekick, the loner, the kawaii psycho, and the odd introvert and her equally abnormal friends. In a nutshell, Heartbreaker is a basic survival guide for what to expect in high school. And I should know, given a lot of the stereotypes were also in my school.
Unfortunately, the series so far only stretches 2 season but is rumored to have a 3rd one coming in the near future. Because of this a lot of questions are left unanswered. What happens after the big incident? Does the main character go to jail or can she stop the psycho's plan? Who knows. But what I do know personally is that while the character archetypes are a bit spot on some of them are a bit over the top. Primarily, archetypes like the psycho which in normal cases is just some stalker or jealous rando looking to steal a persons life for their own. Sure they can be a bit dangerous but I think jumping form a harmless punch to full on gun violence might be taking things to the extreme. Regardless however, the series still manages to have a deeply engaging story and offers aspects for all viewers. Given of course they're within legal age or have parental supervision.
And this concludes my review of Heartbreaker. A decent high school romantic drama. But I wouldn't recommend it to younger viewers due to suggestive scenes and mild profanity. I give this youtube series a modest 8.5 / 10. Hope you guys enjoyed the review. Be sure to leave a like if you did and don't forget to follow us for more updates. Got a suggestion you want reviewed? Before I signed off for the day I thought I'd take a moment to let everyone reading this know that YES I am back. However I am not going to be jumping straight into the same routine. From here on this blog is limited only 1 or 2 occassional entries. This, of course, is being implemented to reduce stress beteen entries more often and keep my mind more clearer. Also, as you can tell, I will no longer just be limiting myself to MLP content. From here on I will covering modern pop culture all together. Note this doesn't mean I'm gonna pick up where I left off with my MLP reviews. I have plans for that and will be taking care of it at a later date. In the meantime I wanted to than all of you for sticking by me supprting me, and understandding why I had to step down for a while. This has been Culture Shock, your guide to all things cultural in Equestria and beyond, reminding you to KEEP CALM AND BRONY ON!! PEACE!!
