My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic Issue #63

HELLOOO EVERYBODY and welcome to Cultures Compendium of Reviews! As always, I am Culture Shock. Your guide to all things cultural in Equestria and beyond. In todays review, we learn how sometimes reality can taste bittersweet. However, there are a few rules to go over before we can get started. First off, all content within this blog is expressly the opinion of its author. It does not, nor should it EVER, reflect the overall opinion of the fandom. Lastly, if any of you notice ANY mistakes, be it typos or otherwise, please don't hesitate to let me know. With that said, let's begin. Shall we?

Friendship is Magic #63 is the 63rd issue of IDW Publishing's main series. Written by Christina Rice alongside Brenda Hickey on art, the story follows Twilight and crew when a sudden protest makes its way into town. While celebrating the anniversary of Sugarcube Corners many years of business a group of anti - sugar protestors swoop in. Threatening to have the beloved bakery shut down. Now it's up to Twilight to solve this mess. But can she prevail with all her friends swept up in it as well?

So I myself am pretty moderate about this issue. Not that its a bad thing but mellow issues usually clock low on my excitement radar. Though I'm not one to question an issue with a sensible moral I will say the whole pretense was kinda blown way outta proportions given the whole issue was caused over a tummy ache at best. As for the other symptoms, you can just as much experience things like weight gain if you eat too much of anything really. So in that sense wouldn't this be a protest against all foods rather than just sweets?

Questionable themes aside, I applaud the use of such a simple and moderately obvious moral. Eating sweets isn't a crime. It's all about moderation and knowing when your body's had enough. That and making sure to balance your diet between essential food groups also helps. But most of all, don't over indulge. Take it from me, you might think it was worth It but deep down you know it wasn't.

In terms of problems, I feel the issue was too short and the plot was a bit over the top. On top of that we had to read through most of the comic to find out the villains backstory when it probably would have made more sense to explain it from the beginning. Would have made the whole anti - sugar crusade a little less insane and a tad bit more understandable. Here's hoping things improve in the next issue. Otherwise, I may just go back to reviewing side story issues.

Alright! This concludes my review of issue #63. As I said, too nonsensical for my taste and a bit to slow for my recommendation. I give this issue a 5 / 10. Hope you guys enjoyed the review.
