Episode 6: Boast Busters.... I ain't afraid ah no boast
HELLOOO and welcome to Cultures Compendium of Reviews! As always, I am Culture Shock. Your guide to all things cultural in Equestria and beyond. Today we'll be reviewing an episode about my least favorite personality trait. Before we continue let me lay out the ground rules. Firstly, all content in this blog is the express opinion of its author. It does not nor should it ever reflect the overall opinion of the fandom. Lastly, if any of you notice any mistakes, be it typos or otherwise, don't hesitate to let me know. With that said let's move on, shall we?
MLP s1e06: Boast Busters. Honestly, when I read this title I immediately thought of Ghostbusters. Just goes to show that Hasbro will sneak a reference anywhere. Who you gonna call?
This biggest issue here is the episodes main focus. Boasting is a result of ones own lack of self - confidence. Sometimes we make up stories to avoid looking weak helpless. In Trixie's case it was to sell her show as a showmare. While storytellers can get away with it the same can't be said for all profressions. It can also drive away potential friends and customers.
To me the moral of the episode for a lot to swallow. Don't believe everything you hear. As Spike states "The proof is in the pudding.". Trixie proved this when she claimed she vanquished an Ursa Major. When put under pressure the truth comes out quicker than bullet. Which can sometimes cause more damage than good.
Of course throughout the ordeal the mane 6, save for Twilight, acted just as bad. Twilight, the overly studious mare, held back. Afraid her friends would lump her in with Trixie. Which, while it is a valid fear, is completely ludicrous. True friends never judge one another for what they can and can't do. And unlike Trixie they also know the golden rule. No one person is the best at everything. There's always someone who can reach higher than you. Like how Twilight managed to sooth a finnicky Ursa Minor while Trixie couldn't.
The biggest lesson of all is simple. Don't be ashamed of what makes you unique. At the same time don't let it go to your head. A special talent doesn't make you better than everyone. It just makes you who YOU are.
Alright! That's my review of Boast Busters. Honestly, I wouldn't call it a bad episode. It had some funny and memorable moments like spell #25. I'd recommend this mainly to anyone in need of a life lesson though. I give s1e06 a 7 / 10. I hope you guys enjoyed this review.
