My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic issues 11 - 12

HELLOOO and welcome to Cultures Compendium of Reviews! As always I am Culture Shock. Your guide to all things cultural in Equestria and beyond. Today we review two comic issues based around the classic high school drama story. Before we continue let me lay out the ground rules. Firstly, all content in this blog is the express opinion of its author. It does not nor should it ever reflect the overall opinion of the fandom. Lastly, if any of you notice any mistakes, be it typos or otherwise, don't hesitate to let me know. With that said let's move on, shall we?

My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic issues 11 & 12. Or as I prefer to call it " Revenge of the Bronies part 1 & 2 ". The story of how Princess Cadence met Captain of the Royal Guard Shining Armor. The classic tale of mismatched love in a high school setting.

First off let me say I loved the sense of nostalgia in these issues. Writer Katie Cook and artist Andy Price blend their unique talents into an amazing story. Ironically though the inspiration for seems to be ripped from the classic comedy film series " Revenge of the Nerds". A similar story but told in a different perspective with alternative side stories. Though that's just extra icing on the cake for a lot of us.

The stories main moral of course is good advice when it comes to dating. Love isn't easy. Its a bumpy road with its fair share of obstacles. And sometimes what most people think is right is actually wrong. As the old saying goes: Opposites attract.

Although Shining eventually ended up with the girl of his dreams not every fairy tale has that happy ending. In real life love is an even tougher battle. Especially in high school. I remember only having one special someone myself and that was only for a year. Regardless though love is a battle worth fighting. No matter how painful it may be no one is ever alone forever.

Unfortunately, besides the initial backstory and a small shout-out to the show Quantum Leap there aren't many pop culture references to mention. Pity.

Alright! That's my review of issues 11 & 12. Definitely a riot to read but only if you can understand the reference. I openly recommend this to any shining x cadence fans or high school comedy fans. As a whole I give both issues a combined 9 / 10. I hope you guys enjoyed this review.
