[Season 3] Episode 10: Keep Calm and Flutter on.... man
HELLOOO EVERYBODY and welcome to Cultures Compendium of Reviews! As always, I am Culture Shock. Your guide to all things cultural in Equestria and beyond. In todays review, we learn the best way to a pure heart is through the magic of friendship. However, there are a few rules to go over before we get started. First off, all content within this blog is expressly the opinion of its author. It does not, nor should it EVER, reflect the overall opinion of the fandom. Lastly, If any of you notice ANY mistakes, be it typos or otherwise, please do not hesitate to let me know. With that said, let's begin. Shall we?
Keep Calm and Flutter On is the 10th episode of season 3 and the 62nd episode overall. It was written by Dave Polsky with the story by Teddy Antonio. Tasked with reforming the lord of chaos, Twilight and company are left to their devices by Princess Celestia. In hopes that they succeed. In the meantime, Discord begins to enact his own plan by pitting poor Fluttershy against her friends. Will the gang succeed? Or has Discord found his freedom?
So, here we are finally reviewing a fan favorite episode. Which, when you consider how most villains were recently reformed, says a lot. According to storywriter , Teddy Antonio, the premise to the episode had originally been written when Teddy was only 15 and then later altered from his original draft. On top of all that, according to Megan McCarthy this episodes original title, Fluttershy's Home for Reformed Draconequi, was not only a mouthful but also largely dropped hints to the episodes plot. Try saying that 5 times fast.
Personally, I don't feel there's a lot to discuss regarding the episodes obvious moral. I mean, we've already seen how time and time again has been a powerful force against any obstacle. Regardless of it's size or danger. More importantly I think Discord said it best when he plainly said that Friendship is Magic.
While I can somewhat see why so many people sided with Discords reformation as opposed to characters like Starlight I can't help but think this was too quick from the start. Granted this was only the beginning, chances are Discord could have already been plotting ahead of time to bend things to his favor. I mean he already won over not only Fluttershy but Celestia as well. What more was there to do? Of course though part of me also feels like if this didn't happen then we probably wouldn't have gotten the epic season 4 finale. So all in all, Keep Calm and Flutter On is an episode that could technically go either way depending on the viewer POV but at the same time, continue to appeal to fans of all shapes and sizes.
Alright! This concludes my review of Keep Calm and Flutter On. A great episode for Discords road to character development and a recommendable episode for all my readers. I give this episode a 9.5 / 10. Hope you guys enjoyed the review. Be sure to leave a like if you did. Also, don't forget to follow us for more updates. Got a suggestion for a review?
