[Season 3] Episode 9: Spike at Your Service..... no money back gurantee

HELLOOO EVERYBODY and welcome to Cultures Compendium of Reviews! As always, I am Culture Shock. Your guide to all things cultural in Equestria and beyond. In todays review, we're brushing up on our code of honor and all that it entails. However, there are a few rules to go over before we can get started. First off, all content within this blog is expressly the opinion of its author. It does not, nor should it EVER, reflect the overall opinion of the fandom. Lastly, if any of you notice ANY mistakes, be it typos or otherwise, please don't hesitate to let me know. With that said, let's begin. Shall we?

Spike at Your Service is the 9th episode of season 3 and the 61st episode overall. Written by Merriwether Williams, with story by Dave Polsky, this episode focuses on Spikes code of ethics and its importance in relation to his friends. While chasing down a runaway hot air balloon on his day off Spike finds himself alone in the Everfree at the mercy of a group of Timberwolves. But when Aj makes a surprise rescue the young drake finds himself indebted to the farm pony. And he intends to pay it in full. But will Spike pay up? Or will his code drive Aj bonkers?

First off, I'd just like to say that summary hurt more than having to sit through this episode. This by far had to be the epitome of worst episodes regarding this season. Not only was it entire cringe carnival to watch but some party of me felt insulted just by how Spike was so delusionally intent on paying a debt he didn't really owe. I mean if he had remembered two simple facts, a. Timberwolves are made of wood and b. HE BREATHES FIRE, then this whole pain in the flank plot twist would have never happened. But no. They had to make a mockery of poor Spike even more than they already had.

Frankly, I feel the moral here has to be don't get too hung up on your own moral compass. It's one thing to repay a favor, but when you literally have to force yourself onto someone then you're going too far. No debt is ever worth throwing away ones own dignity. Not even a life debt.

To be honest, I understand the need to make a character the butt of a joke. But when you constantly pick on the same character then it really gets old. What's more is this whole episode makes a mockery of the dragons code. Which, for those of you reading, is a load of ponyfeathers. Spikes "Spike the Dragon Code" is nothing more than his own childish form of an honor code that he himself made up. It was proven back in the episode "Dragon Quest" that Spike knew little to nothing about his own heritage. Ergo, who's to say this is the exact dragon code? No one. That's who. Needless to say, I look forward to putting this cringefest behind me and moving forward to hopefully a better future.

Alright! This concludes my review of Spike at Your Service. I now fully understand why so many people hated this episode. I, unfortunately, will not be recommending such a blatant kick in the face to all dragon kind. I give this episode a 3 / 10. Hope you guys enjoyed the review. Be sure to leave a like if you did.
