My Little Pony: Friends Forever Issue #13
HELLOOO EVERYBODY and welcome to Cultures Compendium of Reviews! As always, I am Culture Shock. Your guide to all things cultural in Equestria and beyond. In todays review, we learn how sometimes we have to compromise when it comes to make each other happy. However, there are a FEW rules to go over before we can get started. First off, all content within this blog is expressly the opinion of its author. It does not, nor should it EVER, reflect the overall opinion of the fandom. Lastly, if ANY of you notice ANY mistakes, be it typos or otherwise, please don't hesitate to let me know. With that said, let's begin. Shall we?
Friends Forever #13 is the 13th issue of IDW Publishing's 2nd spin - off series. Written by Jeremy Whitley with Agnes Garbowska accompanying on art, the story follows Rarity and Babs Seed as they find entertainment in the big apple. After Sweeetie Belle gets stuck home with an ear infection Rarity takes it upon herself to entertain young Babs Seed on a business trip to Manehattan. But in doing so she finds she doesn't have as much in common with the young filly as she thought. After some wise advice from her celebrity client Rarity sets out to make things right. Can she do it? or is Rarity just out of her element?
Okay, so to quite the obvious let me ask this. Anyone else get a feeling of deja vu while reading this? Admittedly, though I don't hate Rarity issues or episodes, I often find myself confused to just how oblivious such a bright mare like her can be. I mean she faces similar issues in episodes like Rarity Takes Manehattan, Inspiration Manifestation, and even Forever Filly. But mostly due to Rarity's somewhat singular train thought. A trait I'd like to see manifest less and less. For the right reasons of course.
Now as for lessons in this issue I feel as though we've covered this in similar issues in the past. That being that not everyone is made the same way. Sometimes, when you wanna get along, it's best to compromise and find something they like to do rather than what makes you happy. In the end you either come out finding something new to enjoy or learning something new about the people closest to you.
Shortcomings aside, I will applaud Rarity for her sudden ability to turn things back into her favor. A manipulative sense maybe, but one that works none the less. Though from all the girls I've seen I will say Rarity does have an uncanny ability bounce back from any scene. Mostly ones that place her way out of her element. She always comes back wiser, more appreciative of what she has, and most of all it fills with a plethora of new concepts and ideas for her own designs. All that aside, I pray the next issue is a touch more impressive than a unicorn chasing a lost package. Of course it shouldn't be considering who it stars.
Alright! This concludes my review of this issue. Overall I'm not really sure whether to recommend or pass on this issue overall. I give it a 6.5 / 10. Hope you guys enjoy the review.
