[Season 4] Episodes 1 & 2: Princess Twilight Sparkle... let your light shine on

HELLOOO EVERYBODY and welcome to Cultures Compendium of Reviews! As always, I am Culture Shock. Your guide to all things cultural in Equestria and beyond. In todays review, we go back to where it all began to for the first step towards a new future. However, there are a FEW rules to go over before we can get started. First off, all content within this blog is expressly the opinion of its author. It does not, nor should it EVER, reflect the overall opinion of the fandom. Lastly, if ANY of you notice ANY mistakes, be it typos or otherwise, please do not hesitate to let me know. With that said, let's begin. Shall we?

Princess Twilight Sparkle is the 1st and 2nd episodes of Season 4 as well as the 66th and 67th overall episodes. Written by Meghan McCarthy, both episodes chronicle Twilights first steps into being a princess as well as giving a few glimpses of past events. While setting up for the upcoming Summer Sun Celebration Twilight is suddenly left in charge of things when both Princess Celestia and Luna mysteriously vanish. On top of that, a strange invasion of creeping vines begins to take over Ponyville. Can Twilight and her friends solve their problems and save the day?

Alright, new season and a new two part opener. For starters I don't actually hate this one. The story was perfect, the lesson was well delivered, and the nods to the past were a nice touch. Though I am surprised they didn't really make to much obvious given Celestias cognitive abilities. One would think that someone with such an ability would be prepared for this kind of stuff. That and it's a little sad we don't get to see quite how Luna gets captured during the whole ordeal. I mean we do get a vague scene with Celestia but nothing involving Luna. Guess it's just another unsolved mystery to look at.

As far as the moral of this two part opener I'd say it's that people can often go far but that doesn't mean you should ever forget your roots. One door may be closing but that means a whole new world is waiting around the corner. And as long as you keep your friends close you won't be facing it alone.

I guess my only problem with this episode is Luna's lack of a cameo and the lack of explanations regarding how she was captured. Aside from that it was a pretty okay opener. Possibly the best one so far. I will have to admit that for the longest time I had always had the wrong title for this opener but I'm lad either for seeing it and I have high hopes for an even more amazing season to come.

Alright! This concludes my review of Princess Twilight Sparkle. A nice introduction to a new story while a nice way to bid the past a fond farewell. I highly recommend you watch this whether your a Princess Twilight fan or not. I give this season opener a single rating of 10 / 1o. Hope you guys enjoyed the review.
