Episode 11: Winter Wrap-Up.... is it christmas yet
HELLOOO and welcome to Cultures Compendium of Reviews! As always, I, Culture Shock. Your guide to all things cultural in Equestria and beyond. In todays review we say goodbye to the shivers and hello to the sunshine. Before we continue let me lay out the ground rules. Firstly, all content in this blog is the express opinion of its author. It does not, nor should it ever, reflect the overall opinion of the fandom. Lastly, if any of you notice any mistakes, be it typo or otherwise, don't hesitate to let me know. With that said, let's move on. Shall we?
Episode 11: Winter Wrap-Up. An episode well delivered by a lot of bronies. So much so that it spawned its own convention. Ironic since I watched it near the end of winter.
Thinking in terms of lessons in this episode I'm reminded of a quote from a dr. pepper ad. Be you, do what you do. All throughout the episode Twilight made it a point to find her place in the towns tradition. Unfortunately, what she ended up doing was putting to much effort into trying too hard to fit in. Its doesn't take a lot of effort to find where you best fit in a team. In Twilights case she was trying to follow the heard and do things the way everypony else did. In the end she learned all she needed to do was be herself and she'd know to contribute just as much, if not more, to the towns heritage.
Now we get to the bad part. For all the merit the episode carries it suffers from one big flaw. It was dull. That's not saying it had no positives at all. The main musical number was catchy and upbeat. But so were the fan parodies that came after it. The pacing was moderate and there wasn't enough to draw viewers in. Personally, I feel this was the low point of season 1. Though it still beats worst episode "PPOV" by a lot and thats a big positive in my book.
Alright! That concludes my review of Winter Wrap-Up. A little disappointed I couldn't get into as much but I guess I can recommend it. I give Winter Wrap-Up a small 6 / 10. Hope you guys enjoyed this review. Be sure to leave a like if you did. Also don't forget to follow this blog for more content. Got a suggestion for a review? Leave it in the comments below.
