My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic issues 27 - 28
HELLOOO and welcome to Cultures Compendium of Reviews! As always, I'm Culture Shock. Your guide to all things cutural in Equestria and beyond. In todays review we tackle serious issues in a not - so - friendly nature walk. Before we continue let me lay out the ground rules. Firstly, all contents in this blog are the express opinion of its author. It does not, nor should it ever, reflect the overall opinion of the fandom. Lastly, if any of you notice any mistakes, be it typos or otherwise, don't hesitate to let me know. With that said, let's get started. Shall we?
MLP: FIM issues 27 and 28, aka the Root of the Problem, brings together the power duo of writer Katie Cook and artist Andy Price for an awe inspiring look behind the Everfree's curtain. Blending natural artistry with dramatic vocalization they tell a tale of a war between nature and Equus. And nature ain't no pansy.
My favorite part of this arc was being introduced to the residents of Thicket. A city that lies deep within the heart of the Everfree. For centuries these people helped to cultivate and protect the forests land and wildlife. This definitely challanges past concepts on how the Everfree operated. Though it was symbollic to consider deer as they do tend to represent the natural forest.
The lesson in this arc impacts both big and small economics. Progress isn't always positive. Be wary of the decisions you make moving forward. They can have large consequences on the world around you. Well - to - Do believed in greed and capitilism without considering what his park was causing. In the end he and dreams of progress met an untimely end.
Now I can't say I hated this arc. It was an okay story. But so many problems kept me from hating it. First off there's the clashing character tropes. This is biggest negative in this show for me. Secondly...the fandom insults. Obsessive propaganda, trashy merch, slogans and ads meant to sell toys. These are just a few negative fandom stereotypes. They made me feel like this arc was mainly an insult to most brony conventions. For that I say shame on you Hasbro. SHAAAAME!
Alright! This concludes my review of the Root of the Problem. A worthwile read even with the blatant insult. I recommend this to every age. I give issues 27 & 28 an 8 / 10. Hope you guys enjoyed my review. Be sure to leave a like if you did. Also make sure you follow the blog for more updates. Got a suggestion for a review? Leave it in the comments below.
