My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic Issues 25 - 26

HELLOOO and welcome to Cultures Compendium of Reviews! As always, I am Culture Shock. Your guide to all things cultural in Equestria and beyond. In todays review we hit the dusty trail for a high stakes adventure in the old west. Before we begin let me lay out the ground rules. Firstly, all content in this blog is the express opinion of its author. It does not, nor should it ever, reflect the overall opinion of the fandom. Lastly, if any of you notice any mistakes, be it typos or otherwise, don't hesitate to let me know. With that said, let's move on. Shall we?

MLP: FIM issues 25 - 26, aka "The Good, The Bad, and the Ponies", is Hasbro's take on the old black and white of cowboys and bandits. The brain child of writer Katie Cook and artist Andy Price, these issues feature both a rich story in both visual and oral form. Our main heroines are called out west when Applejacks uncle Chili Pepper vanishes. Leaving behind a vacant ranch and a vulnerable town.

My favorite part of these issues is the attention to detail. Back in the old days kids in the U.S. would flock their televisions to catch the latest old western tale. Something about stories of dusty towns, bar saloons, and tough gunmen just made the youth jitter in their seats. Kind of a shame it didn't carry over to this generation.

The lesson in this mini - arc is just as nostalgic. Sometimes you have to stand for what you care about. The town of Canter Creek was more than ready to lye down and let Longhorns gang run them over. With the help of Aj and the girls the town managed to save the ranch and win the day.

Normally I don't like to nitpick stories with important lessons but...this is just begging to be brought up. First off, Applejacks statement in the beginning. It may be rare but in the old days there were often farmsteads that popped up along the desert. Though most were known to raise cattle more often than not occasions came up where farmers managed to find fertile ground for planting. And not just cacti. Lastly, Twilights attitude towards using magic against the bulls. Considering we've seen her blast more than enough "citizens" of Equestria hearing her refuse just sounds more like a weak excuse for being afraid. Guessing she picked that up from a certain solar deity too?

Alright! This concludes my review of The Good, The Bad, The Ponies. A worthwile read for any western fan. It gets a big reccomendation for any age. I give these issues an 8 / 10. Hope you guys enjoyed the review. Be sure to leave a like if you did. Also don't forget to follow my blog for more updates. Got a suggestion for a review? Leave it in the comments below.
