My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic Issue 40
HELLOOO and welcome to Cultures Compendium of Reviews! As always, I am Culture Shock. Your guide to all things cultural in Equestria and beyond. Today we look back at how an unlikely became the best of friends. Before we begin, let's review the rules. Firstly, all content within this blog is expressly the opinion of its author. It does not, nor should it ever, reflect the overall opinion of the fandom. Lastly, if any of you notice any mistakes, be it typos or otherwise, don't hesitate to let me know. With that said, let's begin. Shall we?
MLP: FIM issue #40 is a light slice of life tale from writer Ted Anderson and artist Brenda Hickey. It details the story of Twilight and Spike started out. Complete with cameos by Trixie, Dazzler, and Minuette / Colgate.
I like this issue because it shows that not all friendships are born so easily. Sometimes friends often end up bickering before they even get along. This can either strengthen new bonds or push possible friends FAR apart. In this case, it was the former.
The lesson in this issue is both meaningful and wise. Sometimes friendships are born from the hardest struggles. Twilight and Spike started off on quite the rocky path before they gave friendship a chance. From that a familial bond of friendship and love was born.
I didn't have a lot of problems with this issue but there is one worth pointing out. How Celestia neglected to inform the school staff about Twilights... task. That shows a lack of both mentorship and professionalism from the solar diarch. Of course it's expected from miss "sends my student to deal with MY own mistakes". And she expects us to worship her?
Alright! This concludes my review of this issue. Although I'm not big on plain slice of life stories I had fun reading this. I recommend this to anyone interested in Twilight and Spike's history together. I give issue #40 a 9 / 10. Hope you guys enjoyed this review. Be sure to leave a like if you did.
