Cultures Contemplations: The not so Glim-Glamorous Life of Starlight
HELLOOO everybody and welcome to Cultures Compendium of Reviews! As always, I am Culture Shock. Your guide to all things cultural in Equestria and beyond. In todays discussion, we're digging deep for the truth behind a recently beloved character. Before we begin, however, let's review the rules. First off, all content within this blog is expressly the opinion of its author. It does not, nor should it ever, reflect the overall opinion of the fandom. Lastly, if any of you notice any mistakes, be it typos or otherwise, please don't hesitate to let me know. With that said, let's begin. Shall we?
Okay. I wanna make this clear first before I start. To all the Starlight fans reading this, I apologize if you take offense to any of it. But bare in mind that this blog is strictly opinion based only. Nothing in it is based on truth nor is it based on facts. Its meant only as my own observation of her character and nothing more. So please refrain from taking it any other way. Thank you.
So, as you all know, a long while back I did a spotlight on a certain op unicorn named Starlight Glimmer. In it I touched on some of her positive quirks like what makes her such a fan favorite. And while I did bring up a few negatives I don't think I quite expanded her character like I intended. So today I'm going over most of what I didn't cover in my last expose. So sit back and relax as we go over what makes Starlight Glimmer.
First off, is her origin in the story. Starlight first made her debut appearance in the two - parter titled Our Town. In it she was introduced basically as the leader of a town of brainwashed ponies. After her true intentions were discovered Starlight inevitably fled to pursue her vengeance in the near future. Having her return in the two part finale entitled The Cutie Re - Mark. Where she was bent on destroying the mane by tampering with their past.
After her redemption at the end of season 5, Starlight was placed in the tutelage of the Twilight Sparkle. In order to learn more about friendship and overcoming her past. Since then, Starlight's helped to not only save Equestria twice, once from a changeling invasion and once from the pony of shadows, but she also managed to unite a once feared race of new allies. So now the question is, why do fans still dislike her?
The biggest reason she has so many dislikes is mostly due to her quick shift from villain to hero. A process that, normally, would take a whole other season to get too. Especially when compared to characters like Discord and Sombra. Who had to fall hard to find they're second chance. That aside, personally, I feel there's more to it than meets the eye.
In my opinion, I feel that what makes Starlight so popular yet hated has to do with her similarities to characters like Sunset, Luna, Trixie, and even Twilight. Of course what brought this up has to do with how convienntly Starlight appears, following a semi - similar story to Sunset and Trixie and can go blow for blow with an alicorn Twilight before winding up redeemed yet still afraid of her past like Sunset and Luna. Frankly, in this writers opinion, I feel like they brought poor Starlight backk just to appease certain fans rather than giving them what they want. And that just sickens me.
In conclusion, Starlights future as of now is yet undecided. But if I had to guess. I doubt we could be looking at the next alicorn princess. Of course I could be wring and we might be. Either way, Hasbro at least has more characters to write about. And that's okay with me.
Alright! This concludes my Starlight Spotlight part 2. Hope you guys enjoyed it. Be sure to leave a like if you did. Also, don't forget to follow us for more updates. Got a suggestion for a review? A few spelling errors but otherwise I like your review of Starlight.
ReplyDeleteI agree that Starlight's redemption was a bit rushed but at the same time I like the good Starlight. She wants to right the wrongs she caused, she's taken a leadership role when it comes to the fate of Equestria and at times she can be pretty cute and adorable.
I don't disagree but at the same time it's kinda painful seeing this character have barely anything really be hers.
