Cultures Contemplations: Season 2 in a Nutshell
HELLOOO EVERYBODY and welcome to Cultures Compendium of Reviews! As always, I am Culture Shock. Your guide to all things cultural in Equestria and beyond. Today, we bid a fond farewell to another season as we share our final thoughts on season 2. However, before can get started there ARE a few rules to go over. First off, all content within this blog is expressly the opinion of its author. It does not, nor should it ever, reflect the overall opinion of the fandom. Lastly, if any of you find ANY mistakes, be it typos or otherwise, please don't hesitate to let me know. With that said, let's begin. Shall we?
So the time has come for another season to end as all seasons must do. And with season 3 coming next, plus season 8 just around the bend, I thought share some final thoughts on season 2. Both as a whole and individually.
Season 2 marked the end of an early era as the shows co - creator Lauren Faust announced she was leaving the project after the seasons finale. Which a lot of fans, myself included, were surprised to hear about. But of course Lauren still managed to give her best to make season 2 a fond finale for herself and the crew. After which the show would go through some major changes over the progressing seasons.
The one thing that did grate on my nerves was there wasn't a big difference between season 2 and season 2. The mood was still more mellow for most of it. Aside from the two - part opener and two - part final a lot of the episodes were a steady pace of ups and downs. Most of which featured memorable moments or helped spawn them.
I will admit, however, there are a few things I myself would have done differently. Like perhaps giving Luna more screentime this season. Or giving Discord a bigger part for his future redemption arc. At the very least I would have teased the finale more to help build up better fan reception. Though like most things that's just a fans perspective and nothing more.
To sum it all up. I wouldn't call Season 2 the worst season yet. Nor would I call it the best. What I will say is it's at least a small step further in what I hope was a great direction for both the show and its fans.
Alright! This concludes my season 2 recap. A fond farewell to a creative mind and a generous step towards a productive future in this reviewers opinion. I give season 2 a 7.5 / 10.
