Cultures Contemplations: Fall of and Idol

Hello everybody and welcome to Cultures Compendium of Reviews. As always, I am Culture Shock. Your guide to all things cultural in Equestria and beyond. Today, I'd like to discuss my thoughts and feelings on a recent development that's impacted not just myself but the fandom entirely. However, there are a few rules to go over before we get started. First off, all content within this blog is expressly the opinion of its author. It does not, nor should it ever, reflect the overall opinion of the fandom. Lastly, if any of you notice any mistakes, be it typos or otherwise, please don't hesitate to let me know. With that said, let's begin. Shall we?

As I'm sure many of you know by now there's been a rather deep issue that has occurred as of this weekend. Now for the safety and dignity of those involved I'll be keeping the identities of those involved a secret. As such, I would like you the reader to do the same. For the time being we'll address them as Gary and Jane. Likewise, I'd like to point out that in no way do I support the act of pedophilia nor do I endorse it any sense of the word. That aside let's get down to the real discussion at hoof.

First off, I'd like to address the situation at hand. From the information that's been released Gary, our mystery man, had been contacting Jane, our victim, over the course of some time now. Sending messages back forth and just generally talking one on one. Eventually things started to change when Gary brought up the idea of doing erp's, or erotic roleplays, with Jane. Being the curious youth she was Jane accepted and the two began engaging in what began as minor erotic scenarios. What makes things worse is that as time went on things got more and more heated between the two to a point where Gary had actually began asking for lewd and sexual photos of the girl in question. And to make matters worse Gary himself sent provocative images of his "business" covered by his boxers. The most shocking part, however, was that the girl in question was a minor living in the us when this had begun. To sum all that up, basically, Gary committed was soliciting child porn from a minor. A charge that no one man or woman can ever escape.

Next, I wanna talk about the impact this whole thing is having and how it's effecting the fandom. OF course, the majority of it being his fans and the people he considered his friends. I don't know if I can speak for the people he's worked so closely with, but speaking as a fan.... this blows. This just blows big time. Especially given the effort he himself put into trying to build this positive yet edgy image people could get into. Only for the truth to just shatter it like a diamond statue. Taking the respect and inspiration of a lot of fans with it. Myself being one of them.

Lastly, I wanna give my final thoughts on how the fandom has been approaching this. Which, frankly, sickens me to watch. I agree that, yes, Gary should have to pay for his crimes and he is. He's come forward and admitted to doing something wrong. And he's even agreed to turning himself in. Not only that the man admits to wanting to fix what he did. Yet regardless of all the promises and all the attempts at trying to save what little dignity he has no one gives him that chance. Every last one of you have done nothing but act like a pack of jackals. Tearing apart the mans image piece by bloody piece. And what for? To make a statement? The same statement you can make by walking away and letting a man serve his time for what he's done with his dignity intact. In this reviewers opinion the fandom should feel ashamed of itself. This is nothing like Jerry Peet and it never will come close to that. To sum it all up I only have this to stay. I stand by the man I watched when I came to this fandom and I will continue to stand by that image till the end of this. Even if it means being thrown to a pack of lions.
