Cultures Contemplations: Relationships between Reality and Fantasy
HELLOOO and welcome to Cultures Compendium of Reviews! As always, I am Culture Shock. Your guide to all things cultural in Equestria and beyond. Today, we take a serious look on relationships both in and out of fandoms. Before we begin, let's review the rules. First off, all content within this blog is expressly the opinion of its author. It does not, nor should it ever, reflect the overall opinion of the fandom. Lastly, if any of you notice any mistakes, be it typos or otherwise, don't hesitate to let me know. With that said, let's begin. Shall we?
So, usually I try to avoid topics that tend to get under my skin. And with good reason as they can often lead to trouble down the road. But recently a subject has come up that's been deemed to important not to discuss. That topic being yet another hot button issue for certain reasons.
Websters defines a relationship as a relation connecting or binding participants in a relationship. It's the unspoken bond between family, friends, and most of all loved ones that keeps them united throughout time and space. However, often times things complicate those bonds. Causing a divide between the two.
Recently, I got into a bit of a heavy debate with a former friend regarding the implications of shipping, a fantasy relationship, and the impact it can have a real relationship. Needless to say, things didn't go too well and we split ways because of it. The reason being that people often mistake joking with actual behavior. What's more is that my so - called "friend" chose to judge me without knowing the full story. And that of course was the trigger for the whole debacle to begin with.
Needless to say, relationships are hard and can often lead to dificult decisions or situations. The best thing to do is to approach things calmly and rationally. Consider your words and actions carefully and how they may effect the other person. That's not to say you should stop caring of course. Just don't let your desires to help overshadow your ability to think.
