Top 5 Kamen Rider Designs that Tried but Failed
HELLOOO and welcome to Cultures Compendium of Reviews! As always, I am Culture Shock. Your guide to all things cultural in Equestria and beyond. Today, we look back at 5 masked riders who's designs were flashy but didn't really make the cut...or sense. Before we begin, let's review the rules. First off, all content within this blog is expressly the opinion of its author. It does not, nor should it ever, reflect the overall opinion of the fandom. Lastly, if any of you notice any mistakes, be it typos or otherwise, don't hesitate to let me know. Extra reminder, this list will not be in any specific order. And should not be taken as such. With that said, let's begin. Shall we?
So, as most of you recall. I recently reviewed a toku film titled Kamen Rider x Super Sentai: Super Hero Taisen. While I was putting together the review a thought popped into my head. For as many Kamen Riders as there's been, each one has come with it's own individual style and design. And while most have been both appealing and so much more. There are some that might have taken some aspects a bit too far. So today I bring you my Top 5 Kamen Rider Desisns That Tried But Failed. Let's begin:
1) Kamen Riders Decade / Diend:
So, to start off. Kamen Rider Decade was the Kamen Rider equivelant to a rival sentai called Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger. Known also as the "Barcode Warrior", Decade and Diends reflected this by featuring barcode designs molded into their helmets and armor. Which, though unique, did little in terms of vision. This, of course, was due to the designs overlapping the helmets eyeholes. Limiting the suit actors sights and making it more difficult to watch where you moved.
2) Kamen Rider Kiva-
Though it pains me to include him I feel I have too. Kamen Rider Kiva is the main antagonist of his respective series. Of course, as with the shows theme, Kivas suit featured an all gothic bat theme. Complete with a perch on his belt for Kivat Bat. The only problem, though, was that most of the suit was weighted down by heavy metal chains. Which, although decorative, hindered the suit actor and limited him mobility while also making it harder to perform.
3) Human Wave Tackle-
Okay, admittedly I have yet to actually watch Kamen Stronger so there's not much to say here. Aside from practicality, there's really nothing TOO bad about this design. The biggest problem, however, is the design looks more like a bad OC cosplay rather than an official character. Though if it were remodeled for the modern day audience I might have a... different.... opinion.
4) Kamen Rider Birth / Re - Birth-
Okay, so these designs were impressive in some ways. Mostly due to the multiple armaments they included. Though, add - ons aside, these two failed for one simple reason. Too much similarity. Other than a few color changes, the two riders shared most of the same features. Including similar belt designs. The only difference being, of course, that the two suits were designed as mirror images. Which in turn made certain features appear opposite to the the other.
5) Kamen Rider Kuuga / Agito-
So they say impression is just another form of flattery. The two designs, however, were far from that. Kamen Rider Kuuga was the "unofficially" the first Kamen Rider of the Heisei Rider. His design, of course, followed the old trend of a bug like motif which would change and alter with each form. After Kuuga's dramatic ending, Toei released their next hero named Kamen Rider Agito. What makes this so bad is that while they aren't completely similar, Agito actually borrows a lot of his design from Kuuga. Though a bit more advanced, the designs are so close it's nearly impossible to notice.
