[Season 2] Episode 15: The Super Speedy Cider Squeezy 6000... say that 5 times fast
HELLOOO and welcome to Cultures Compendium of Reviews! As always, I am Culture Shock. Your guide to all things cultural in Equestria and beyond. Today, we learn how dishonesty comes in all flavors. Before we begin, let's review the rules. First off, all content within this blog is expressly the opinion of its author. It does not, nor should it ever, reflect the overall opinion of the fandom. Lastly, if any of you notice any mistakes, be it typos or otherwise, don't hesitate to let me know. With that said, let's begin. Shall we?
"The Super Speedy Cider Squeezy 6000" is the 15th episode of season 2 and the 41st overall. Written by M. A. Larson, the episode the Apple family and friends during a less than typical day on the farm. Cider Season's in full swing and all of Ponyville has turned out for a chance at the rare occassion. Business goes as usual for Aj and her family till a rival pair named Flim and Flam show up and challenges them for the rights to cider season. Can the Apple family prevail? Or will the conmen come out on top?
Okay, so this episode happened. Honestly, I'm not sure whether I like this one or not. Granted the reference to the old fable titled John Henry vs. The Steam Drill was nice. I just don't think it's enough for this episode.
To be honest, I'm not fully sure what the real lesson here is. I mean I guess you could say there's no easy way to do things. To quote Aj, "If you take your time to do things the right way, your work will speak for itself." Or in other words, hard work and effort breeds excellent results. Wish I could say the same for this episode.
Frankly, I don't think I hate this episode. But at the same time, I can't say I like it either. The classic fable reference was nice and it's always nice seeing Aj and her "whole" family working together. But I also feel like the whole thing was a combination of a bad storyboard and lazy writing. I mean, Ponyville has had their fair share of con artists before yet here they are, gullible as ever, falling for a song a dance number. And people wonder what's wrong with this town?
Alright! This concludes my review of The Super Speedy Cider Squeezy 6000. Frankly, the title is a mouthful and the whole episode was nothing more than product placement. I don't really think I can recommend one way or the other. I give this episode a 4 / 10. Hope you guys enjoyed the review. Be sure to leave a like if you did.
