Cultures Contemplations: Season 7 Finale

HELLOOO and welcome to Cultures Compendium of Reviews! As always, I am Culture Shock your guide to all things cultural in Equestria and beyond. Today, we'll be discussing our thoughts on recent news regarding season 7's finale. Before we begin, let's review the rules. First off, all content within this blog is expressly the opinion of its author. It does not, nor should it ever, reflect the overall opinion of the fandom. Lastly, if any of you notice any mistakes, be it typos or otherwise, don't hesitate to let me know. With that said, let's begin. Shall we?

Okay, so as the title suggests, today I'll be tackling my own opinion on the recent synopsis of season 7 two - part finale. Just a forewarning, there will be spoilers. So if you haven't already heard the news I suggest you stop here and head back. Otherwise, on with the discussion.

So recently the synopsis for episodes 25 and 26 of season 7 were leaked to the public. A two - parter entitled "Shadow Play". In the first half, Sunburst discovers the lost journal of Starswirl the Bearded, Twilight becomes obsessed with saving her magical idol from a 1000 year old prison. In the finale, with Starswirl and the other Pillars of Old Equestria back from limbo, Twilight and her friends must work together to defeat the Pony of Shadows.

Honestly, my feelings regarding this information is somewhere between confused and slightly intrigued. This is mostly due to several factors. Most of which relate to the first half. Though in all fairness, I AM hoping for a possible tie - in with Shadowlock and his story.

First off, I'd like to point out the reference "a 1000 year old prison" in the first half. If memory serves me, it was around that same time that Celestia and Luna had their falling out. Which resulted in Luna's 1000 year banishment. With that being said where were Starswirl and these "Pillars of Old Equestria" at the time? Could Luna's corruption be tied to the Pony of Shadows? If so why wasn't Celestia involved? Who knows. But it's a possible theory.

Secondly, I wanna talk about the finale and how it could effect the rumored season 8. And yes, I have no doubts about there being a season 8. But, regarding the season 7 finale it kinda puts season 8 at a disadvantage in terms of appeal. Frankly, judging by the descriptions I kinda feel like this would make a better series finale than a season finale. And in this reviewers opinion that's just a waste of a good ending.

Lastly, let's talk about how none of this came up UNTIL season 7. From season 1 and there was never any real mention of what became of Starswirl. Up until recently, Starswirl's only been referenced in regards to his unfinished spells or for his status in Equestrian history. Beyond that nopony, not even the celestial siblings, made any hint or reference to Starswirl vanishing. Let alone anything about these "Pillars of Old Equestria". Could there be some meaning to this? Or is this just a case of last minute planning? Either way has a lot to explain.

In conclusion, am I hyped for this finale? Maybe. Could this change MLP entirely? I don't know. But what I do know is that whatever happens I'll still be proud to be a brony. Even if this is a waste of a perfectly good series finale.

Alright! This concludes todays discussion. Hope you guys enjoyed it. Be sure to leave a like if you did. Also, don't forget to follow us for more updates. Got a suggestion for a review?
