Footloose [1984]
HELLOOO and welcome to Cultures Compendium of Reviews! As always, I am Culture Shock. Your guide to all things Cultural in Equestria and beyond. Today, we cut loose and kick up our sunday shoes. Before we begin, let's review the rules. First off, all content within this blog is expressly the opinion of its author. It does not, nor should it ever, reflect the overall opinion of the fandom. Lastly, if any of you notice any mistakes, be it typos or otherwise, don't hesitate to let me know. With that said, let's begin. Shall we?
Footloose is a 1984 American musical drama filmed by Herbert Ross. It was loosely based events that took place in the town o Elmore City, Oklahoma. The movie follows the life of Ren McCormack after he and his mother move from the big city to a small rural town down south. One where, thanks to a local preacher, dancing is outlawed. However, with the help of some new friends, Ren attempts change things for the better. Can he do it? Or will dancing always remain his guilty pleasure?
Well, what CAN I say about this film? Besides how the soundtrack and background drama where about the best parts of it all. The dancing was a bit too flamboyant, the high school drama seemed generic, and honestly Kevin Bacons acting was less than flashy. But hey, that theme sure is catchy.
While not the worst result, the film DID receive less than stellar reviews an a 54% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Most of the reviews cited the movies target audience as the biggest negative. As well as Kevin Bacon's role as Ren McCormack. Bad reviews aside, however, the film still managed to pull in 80 million in domestic sales compared to a budget of 8.2 million.
To be honest, the most shocking part is how the soundtrack impressed me more than the initial film. And I hate musicals. Needless to say though, I probably won't be picking up the remake to this movie anytime soon.
Alright! This concludes my review of Footloose. An amazing soundtrack but the acting could have been better. I recommend at least listening to the ffilms playlist. I give this film a 6.5 / 10. Hope you guys enjoyed the review. Be sure to leave a like if you did. Also, don't forget to follow us for more updates. Got a suggestion for a review? Leave it the comments down below.
