To Love Alicorns
HELLOOO and welcome to Cultures Compendium of Reviews! As always, I am Culture Shock. Your guide to all things cultural in Equestria and beyond. Today, we learn more than we need about love and loss. Before we begin, let's review the rules. First off, all content within this blog is expressly the opinion of its author. It does not, nor should it ever, reflect the overall opinion of the fandom. Lastly, if any of you notice any mistakes, be it typos or otherwise, don't hesitate to let me know. With that said, let's begin. Shall we?
To Love Alicorns is the much deserved sequel to the comic To Love God - To Love Mortal. Written and drawn by Vavacung, the sequel takes place after the events of it's prequel. A century after her lovers death Celestia once again sets out to find her better half. This time accompanied by her sister Luna. Though a surprise visit from a former foe cuts her efforts short. Has Celestia found her love once and for all? And what of poor Luna? Can she learn to let go of a lost love?
So here we are. The dramatic sequel to Vavacung's To Love God - To Love Mortal. And honestly, I'm surprised. The story features a strong mix of emotions relating to love, loss, regret, and fear. Though I will say it's a bit confusing for first time readers. Mostly due to its structure.
As I said about it's prequel, the lesson to this story emphasizes how love can be a difficult road. A road paved with obstacles to test our desires and teach us things we never knew about ourselves. I repeat, Tis better to have loved and lost than to have never loved at all.
Now I know the first was perfect. And I'd like to the same here. However, there are some problems in this comic that weren't in the first. First off, it's not a standalone comic. The plot picks up where the prequel leaves off. Making it hard for first time readers to follow along. Finally, the whole story's actually split between 3 perspectives. Celestua and Mache, Luna and Moony, and Chrysalis(disguised as Shining) and Cadence. Which makes it a tad more difficult to follow what's going on. That aside, though, the comic is really an emotional masterpiece beyond anything Hasbro or IDW could ever produce.
Alright! This concludes my review of To Love Alicorns. A climatic sequel to an emotional roller coaster. Though I do recommend reading To Love God - To Love Mortal first. I give this comic a 9.5 / 10. Hope you guys enjoyed the review. Be sure to leave a like if you did. Also, don't forget to follow us for more updates. Got a suggestion for a review?
