HELLOOO and welcome to Cultures Compendium of Reviews! As always, I am Culture Shock. Your guide to all things cultural in Equestria and beyond. Today, we're suiting up and crossing streams for an ectoplasmic adventure. Before we begin, let's review the rules. First off, all content within this blog is expressly the opinion of its author. It does not, nor should it ever, reflect the overall opinion of the fandom. Lastly, if any of you notice any mistakes, be it typos or otherwise, don't hesitate to let me know. With that said, let's begin. Shall we?
Ghostbusters is a 1984 American supernatural comedy film. Directed by Ivan Reitman, the film followed 3 parapsychologists who open a ghost - catching business in New York City. As the city faces a sudden surge in paranormal activity 3 parapsychologists band together to solve the city's crisis. But as the trio embark on their business venture begins to make itself known. Do the Ghostbusters have the firepower to take it down?
I. Love. This. Film. Back in the day, Ghostbusters was a turn of the century cult classic. Most of all, it was part of what inspired multiple ghost hunting fanatics and skeptics. Some of which formed there own teams such as TAPS from the scifi series Ghost Hunters and the Ghost Adventures television series.
Originally, the film was collaberative idea between writer Dan Akroyd, who also played in the film, and fellow SNL alumnus, John Belushi. Akroyd would later work with co - star Harold Ramis to rewrite the script following Belushi's passing before getting approval from producer Ivan Reitman.
On the films release on June 8, 1984 the film slowly grossed a total of $295.2 million at the box office. After which the film received overwhelmingly reviews. Some of which, such as film critic Roger Ebert, quoted the film as " an exception to the general rule that big special effects can wreck a comedy."
From it's comedic satire. To its paranormal adventures. Ghostbusters has remained a true classic for many generations. Loved by millions....Unless you count the recent remake.
Alright! This concludes my review of Ghostbusters. A childhood classic and a cult gem. I highly recommend this for any paranormal fanatics. I give this a 10 / 10. Hope you guys enjoyed the review.
