[Season 2] Episode 14: The Last Roundup...partner

HELLOOO and welcome to Cultures Compendium of Reviews! As always, I am Culture Shock. Your guide to all things cultural in Equestria and beyond. Today, how facing a problem can be difficult no matter who you are. Before we begin, let's review the rules. First off, all content within this blog is expressly the opinion of its author. It does not, nor should it ever, reflect the overall opinion of the fandom. Lastly, if any of you notice any mistakes, be it typos or otherwise, don't hesitate to let me know. With that said, let's begin. Shall we?

The Last Roundup is the 14th episode of season 2 and the 40th episode overall. Written by Amy Keating Rogers, the story follows Applejack and company on an old western roundup. After promising to help fix town hall, Applejack heads off to compete in the Equestria Rodeo Competition in Canterlot. Afterwards, the town prepares a welcome home party in Applejacks honor. But when a surprise telegram derails the festivities its up to Twilight and the gang to track down Aj and find out the truth. But can they pry it from the stubborn farmpony? Or will Aj get the better of her friends?

Well here we are again. Another western themed episode....yay. But, I can't say it was all bad. While the theme wasn't my favorite I did like the comedic satire and references this episode had. Specifically Pinkies rant in the orchard and her surprise to Aj's logical deception. Though I don't think Aj could pull that off a second time.

I think Applejack summed up this episodes lesson best when she said there's no reason to hide when you don't do as well as you hoped. Success can be a two way street. Instead of running away from a problem try facing it head on. And if all else fails just remember the golden rule. You're never alone. Your friends and family will always be there to back you up in any jam.

Aside from my personal disdain for most western themed media, this episode turned out pretty okay. We met a new side character in Cherry Jubilee and Derpy even had her first speaking role in the series. Though Hasbro did recieve some very harsh feedback on her characters portrayal. Kind of a pointless arguement, considering Rogers herself admitted there was no harm intended when she first came up with the character.

Alright! This concludes my review of The Last Roundup. A well to do episode about never being ashamed of second best. Though I mostly recommend purely for Pinkies comedic and frightful parts. I give this episode an 8 / 10 Hope you guys enjoyed the review. Be sure to leave a like if you did. Also, don't forget to follow us for more updates. Got a suggestion for a review?
