Cultures Contemplations: Party in Pink
HELLOOO and welcome to Cultures Compendium of Reviews! As always, I am Culture Shock. Your guide to all things cultural in Equestria and beyond. Today we take an in depth look at a pony who can be more than meets the eye. Before we begin, let's review the rules. First off, all content within this blog is expressly the opinion of its author. It does not, nor should it ever, reflect the overall opinion of the fandom. Lastly, if any of you notice any mistakes, be it typos or otherwise, don't hesitate to let me know. With that said, let's begin. Shall we?
Pinkie Pie, aka Pinkamena Diane Pie, is one of many characters who transitioned from recent and previous generations. Best known as Ponyvilles Resident Party Pony Pinkie is portrayed as the spastic and zany member of the main 6. But her character goes beyond even that. Today, I'll be going over some key points of Pinkies character that some fans often overlook.
First off, let's discuss Pinkie's main role in the group dynamic and how it effects the ponies aaround her. As most of us know, a group is made of individual people who contribute a single piece, it can be anything, to help strengthen their teams resolve. For the main 6 I feel like Twilight acts as the brains of the group, Fluttershy handles emotional support, Applejack is the raw muscle, Dash is the adrenaline, and Rarity is the beauty. As for Pinkie it's quite simple. She contributes stressful relief and cheer when others most need it. Acting as both a comedic muse and a caring hoof wherever she's called.
Next up is Pinkies emotional state. As we've seen from both the fandom and episodes like Party of One, we know that Pinkie Pie isn't immune to emotional trauma. Though she often smiles in the face of adversity that doesn't mean she's not fragile. Like many, Pinkie often projects an outward cheer as to help others cheer up while also masking the painful scars she carries with her everyday. The problem with that though is that so many people only see the smile on her face. Often assuming she has no emotional trauma or deep rooted fears. A sad but true fact indeed.
Finally, there's Pinkie Pies uncanny abilities. One of Pinkies most known traits are the abilities she often uses to help her improve other ponies days. Although there are no official explanations to just how she can accomplish what she does I like to think that just makes her even more of a fun character. The mysteries that surround this ball of everlasting joy are the things fans most love about her. Because it lets them be more creative with how they view her. After all, if every porkchop were perfect then we wouldn't have hotdogs.
In a nutshell, I think Pinkie is a character who well exceeds normal expectations. She goes above and beyond to offer joy and comfort to ponies and fans alike. Even at the expense of her own well being. And I think that makes her a character well worth the praise and ajulation she so rightfully deserves.
