HELLOOO and welcome to Cultures Compendium of Reviews! As always, I am Culture Shock. Your guide to all things cultural in Equestria and beyond. Today we're strolling down the wrestling hall of history as I name my top 5 favorite superstars. Before we begin, let's review the rules. First off, all content within this blog is expressly the opinion of its author. It does not, nor should it ever, reflect the overall opinion of the fandom. Lastly, if any of you notice any mistakes, be it typos or otherwise, don't hesitate to let me know. Likewise, this list will be in no specific order. Simply a list of 5 of my personal favorites. With that said, let's begin. Shall we?
Professional wrestling has been a staple of sports entertainment since its early years. Over the decades countless characters have come and gone through its various promotions. Each one making its own memory in the hearts of fans both young and old. Today I present to you my top 5 favorite wresters:
1. Goldberg-
Imagine you're on the top of your game. You just won the big one. Then that iconic intro theme titled Invasion. Born William Scott Goldberg, he first began his sports career as a football player at the University of Georgia before later signing with the Los Angeles Rams in the 1990 NFL draft. Seven years later Goldberg would make the transition to professional wrestling during a debut match on Semptember 22, 1997. Since then he's managed to wrack up a record as one of the greatest competitors in wrestling to date.
2. The Undertaker-
Mark William Calaway, aka The Undertaker, started is career in 1984 with the company WCCW. After which, he would go on to have a brief stint in WCW as "Mean Mark" Callous from 1989 to 1990 before signing with WWE in the same year. Since his debut on November 22, 1990 Calaway would go on to main event multiple Wrestlemania events. Wracking up in an impressive winning streak. That is until a botched loss at the hands of the beast incarnate, Brock Lesnar. As of this year the deadman incarnate has retired from the world of pro wrestling to better focus on his family.
3. Papa Shango-
Charles Wright is an american semi - retired professional wrestler. He's best known for his tenure with the WWE throughout the 90's and early 2000's. Since his debut, Charles has performed under multiple ring names. One of his most famous being Papa Shango. A voodoo practicioner with an appearance similar to the loa, Baron Samedi. Regrettably, it wasn't his most well recieved persona and was dropped a year later.
4. The Ultimate Warrior-
James Brian Hellwig began his wrestling career under the name Jim "Justice" Hellwig of Powerteam USA in 1985. Later he would transition into a tag career with Steve Borden, aka Sting, as The Freedom Fighters as well as The Blade Runners for the CWA and Mid - South Wrestling from 1985 - 1986. Years later he would make his WWE debut on October 25, 1987 as The Ultimate Warrior. Since then he has wrestled matches in countless other high class and mid card promotions around the globe. Tragically however he passed away on April 8, 2014 at the age 54. Just one day after his final on - screen appearance.
5. Hulk Hogan-
Terry Gene Bollea, better known as Hulk Hogan, is a man of many talents. He began his illustrious career in 1977 after training wrestling legend Matsuda in a match for the CWF. Since he wrestled in countless other southern based promotions before signing with WWF in in 1979. Fans most remember him for his iconic feud with competitor Andre the Giant. A rivalry that would culminate to the legendary slam heard around the world. Now a semi - retired competitor, Bollea has reserved himself to making brief promotional appearances in various well known promotions.
