My Top 5: Comic Book Characters

HELLOOO and welcome to Cultures Compendium of Reviews! As always, I am Culture Shock. Your guide to all things cultural in Equestria and beyond. Today we count down 5 of the best pulp fiction icons. Before we begin, let's review the rules. First off, all content within this blog is expressly the opinion of its author. It does not, nor should it ever, reflect the overall opinion of the fandom. Lastly, if any of you notice any mistakes, be it typos or otherwise, don't hesitate to let me know. Seperate reminder, this will not be in a specific order. The results were picked at random and shouldn't be rreated any specific way. With that said, let's begin. Shall we?

Comic books have been a big part of American pop culture since the the days of WW1. The characters depicted in each issue range from various ideas and concepts dreamt up by their respective creators. Today I'll be listing off 5 of my all time favorites. Note, this won't be exclusive to just heroes as I'm also a fan of quite a few villains as well. Let's get started:

1. The Joker-
Formerly known as Joseph Kerr, the Joker made his first appearance in Batman # 1 in the spring of 1940. Initially, the character was rejected by studio writer Bill Finger for being " too clownish ". It was later relayed to artist Bob Kane who loved the idea so much that he pushed for its production. Since then the Joker has gone through various incarnations throughout popular media. It wasn't till Alan Moore's novelization The Killing Joke that fans got a clearer depiction of his backstory. Gotta love the laughs.

2. Ghost Rider-
This one's more of a concept than a single character choice. The first Ghost Rider appearance was in Marvel Spotlight # 5 back in August 1972. Over the years multiple have taken up the mantle of Ghost Rider. The first of which was Johnny Blaze. A stunt motorcyclist who made a deal with Mephisto to save his dying father. Talk about a gamble.

3. The Punisher-
The Punisher, aka Frank Castle, first appeared in The Amazing Spider - man # 129 back in February 1974. Formerly a war veteran, Frank turned to the vigilante life when his family was murdered by the mob after witnessing a killing in Central Park. Poor guy. No wonder he's so mental.

4. Batman-
Batman made his first appearance back in May of 1939 in Detective Comics # 27. Billionaire Bruce Wayne, his true identity, originally took up the cape and cowl years after the murder of his parents. Originally, it was believed the Joker, Joseph Kerr, was behind it all. It was later changed to the character of Joe Chill, a common mugger.

5. Spawn-
Formerly known as Al Simmons, Spawn made his debut in Spawn # 1 back in May of 1992. After dying at the hands of his former employers Al strikes a deal with the demon Malebolgia. He agrees to become a Hellspawn in exchange for being able to see his wife, Wanda Blake, one last time. Spawns unholy arsenal of abilities makes him a force to be reckoned with.
