My Little Pony The Crystal Princess: The Runaway Rainbow
HELLOOO and welcome to Cultures Compendium of Reviews! As always, I am Culture Shock. Your guide to all things cultural in Equestria and beyond. Today we go back in time again to celebrate quite a colorful celebration. Before we begin, let's review the rules. First off, all content within this blog is expressly the opinion of its author. It does not, nor should it ever, reflect the overall opinion of the fandom. Lastly, if any of you notice any mistakes, be it typos or otherwise, don't hesitate to let me know. With that said, let's begin. Shall we?
My Little Pony The Crystal Princess: The Runaway Rainbow is an animated adventure film produced by SD entertainment and distributed by Paramount Home Entertainment in association with Hasbro. Set in the G3 era it prominantly featured most of the same cast as the last film. With the exception of cameos from the G3 Cheerilee, Spike, and Rarity. The story focuses mainly on the upcoming Rainbow Celebration. A festival that celebrates the first rainbow of the summer. Amidst the preperation young princess Rarity gets teleported across the country alongside her rainbow wand. Lost and confused the young unicorn enlists the help of her new friends from Ponyville to find her way home. Can she reunite with her kind in time to make this years rainbow? Or will it be too late?
Okay, I'll be honest here. I didn't completely hate the film but I also didn't exactly enjoy it. Admittedly, the film was still greater than the G1 film, but it didn't quite hit the same not as A Very Minty Christmas did. Likely just a lack luster between the two.
I'm not completely sure of what the lesson here is either. If I had to guess I would have to say it's to always own up to your mistakes. Throughout the film Rarity continued to deny her hoof in anything. Even though she knew what happened is just as much her fault. When people try to blame things that are often beyond us it's usually out of fear of judgement and ridicule from others. Like how a child would blame their siblings when something breaks.
Primarily what lost me in this film was its lack of depth and focus. The whole transition just played out too quickly and didn't really grab the viewers attention. And aside from Minty I still really didn't understand som of the characters personalities. To sum it all up, the film was more of a mid to low for generation 3. A sad fact for such a great show.
Alright! This concludes todays review. A fun film but definitely not worth a second viewing. I marginally recommend it. I give The Runaway Rainbow a 6.5 / 10. Hope you guys enjoyed the review.
