Cultures Contemplations: Cross Up, Ponies Up
HELLOOO and welcome to Cultures Compendium of Reviews! As always, I am Culture Shock. Your guide to all things cultural in Equestria and beyond. Today, we take a close look at a unique kind of OC. Before we begin, let's review the rules. First off, all content within this blog is expressly the opinion of its author. It does not, nor should it ever, reflect the overall opinion of the fandom. Lastly, if any of you notice any mistakes, be it typos or otherwise, don't hesitate to let me know. With that said, let's begin. Shall we?
Okay, so as many of you remember, not long ago I did an interesting piece on OC's and what it takes to create them. Now for that I was focusing on OC's in general. Rather than a specific type. Today I thought I'd talk about a type I'm most familiar with called crossbreed OC's, or hybrids.
First off, what are crossbreed / hybrid OC's? Put simply, they're OC's created by combining traits from 2 different types. Like dragon ponies for example. The finished product would then inherit traits from the other two. Similar to how alicorns are created but with more limitations.
Different mixes can often yield different results depending on the genetics of the character. Which basically means no two OC's are the same. This opens up room for more vivid creativity. And can make your stand out more. Rather than look like a copy of someone else's OC.
Most importantly, hybrid OC's are often more imaginitive than generic ones. Sometimes even surpassing them in the long run. But without coming off as god tier or OP at the same time.
Last but not least. The drawbacks of a hybrid OC. Much like their combinations, the negative parts of an OC also depends on its base. Sometimes, its individual parts can contradict one another. Which can hurt the quality of your OC in the long run. So avoid overly complicated combinations if you can. And stick with a more simpler, yet unique ideas instead.
Alright! This concludes my discussion on hybrids. Hope you guys enjoyed it. Be sure to leave a like if you did. Also, don't forget to follow us for more updates. Got a suggestion for a review?
