The Transformers: The Movie [1986]
HELLOOO and welcome to Cultures Compendium of Reviews! As always, I am Culture Shock. Your guide to all things cultural in Equestria and beyond. Today, we find out how some things are more than meets the eye. Before we begin, let's review the rules. First off, all content within this blog is expressly the opinion of its author. It does not, nor should it ever, refect the overall opinion of the fandom. Lastly, if any of you notice any mistakes, be it typos or otherwise, don't hesitate to let me know. With that said, let's begin. Shall we?
The Transformers: The Movie is a 1986 Japanese - American animated Scifi action adventure film based on the original series and toyline. Set 20 years after the shows second season the movie features a star studded list of voices like Judd Nelson, Leonard Nimoy, and Frank Welker just to name a few. After the death of Optimus Prime during an assault on Autobot City, the survivors are pursued by Galvatron, a newly revived Megatron, with orders to destroy the Matrix of Leadership for Unicron, his new master. Can the Autobots manage to defeat them? Or is Cybertron doomed to be Unicrons next meal?
Okay, so this film was definitely better than my last 1986 nostalgia. Though it still kinda had a funky quality to it. Most of the audio and dialogue was dubbed so not all of it synched up. And the animation, though filled with a ton of explosions, still left me marginally impressed.
I think the biggest reason the film had to be its soundtrack. Besides Stan Bush's song "The Touch" the film also featured tracks from artists like Weird Al, Vince DiCola, and Spectre General. As well as it's main theme by the band Lion.
I think where this film failed was it's ticket sales. Pulling in only a measely 5.8 million. As opposed to its 6 million in budget. This of course led to delays and cancellations of other upcoming projects.
When it boils down to it The Transformers: The Movie just didn't appeal to as many viewers as DEG and it's co- producers were expecting. A sad and surprising fact considering the shows popularity growth afterwards.
Alright! This concludes my review of The Transformers: The Movie. Although subpar, this film was a large improvement over my last 1986 film. Though unless your a die hard Transformers fan I don't recommend the wasted effort to watch this. I give this film a 4.5 / 10. Hope you guys enjoyed the review. Be sure to leave a like if you did.
