[Season 2] Episode 6: The Cutie Pox...on all of us

HELLOOO and welcome to Cultures Compendium of Reviews! As always, I am Culture Shock. Your guide to all things cultural in Equestria and beyond. Today, we learn how how a little patience can go a long way. Before we begin, let's review the rules. First off, all content within this blog is expressly the opinion of its author. It does not, nor should it ever, reflect the overall opinion of the fandom. Lastly, if any of you notice any mistakes, be it typos or otherwise, don't hesitate to let me know. With that said, let's begin. Shall we?

The Cutie Pox is a dramatic slice of life episode. Written by Amy Keating Rogers, it focuses on the cutie mark crusaders, specifically Apple Bloom, on their quest for a cutie mark. After striking out in their latest attempt Apple Bloom gets depressed. With her mood dampened the young filly wanders into the Everfree Forest to sulk. Bumping into Zecora along the way. After hearing of a rare flower with special properties Apple Bloom mixes a brew to cure her woes. But it comes at a terrible price. Can she manage to bounce back from it?

Okay, so my first impression is just...wow. This, so far, was a great CMC episode. The lesson was minor yet meaningful, the plot was obvious but slightly engaging, and the narrative was unique. A decent improvement over their season 1 mishaps.

I feel like the lesson in this episode, though common, still reflected well with the given plot. Patience is a virtue well worth its rewards. There are no easy paths to what we want. To quote famous poet, Robert Frost, " Two roads diverged in a wood, and I --- I took the road less traveled by, and that has made all the difference." Waiting isn't easy, but its what makes things all the more rewarding.

All biases aside, I think this episode passes off clean. The plot was obvious bust still kept viewers interested. The scenery, although reused, was decent. And the plot made for a more fitting episode about the CMC. In short, a perfect episode for a perfect plot.

Alright! This concludes my review of The Cutie Pox. A surprisingly well written episode by a great writer. I highly recommend it. I give this episode a 9.5 / 10. Hope you guys enjoyed the review.
