Mr. Peabody and Sherman(2014)
HELLOOO and welcome to Cultures Compendium of Reviews! As always, I am Culture Shock. Your guide to all things cultural in Equestria and beyond. Today, we're tagging along for an adventure across time and space alongside a young boy and a very special dog. Before we begin, let's review the rules. First off, all content within this blog is expressly the opinion of its author. It does not, nor should it ever, reflect the overall opinion of the fandom. Lastly, if any of you notice any mistakes, be it typos or otherwise, don't hesitate to let me know. With that said, let's begin. Shall we?
Mr. Peabody and Sherman is a 2014 American 3D scifi comedy film produced by Dreamworks Animation and distributed by 20th Century Fox. Directed by Rob Minkoff, the co - director for the Lion King (1994), the film was adapted from the original 1960's series. The story follows the icinic duo on a trip through time to face their greatest adventure yet, family. Things get worse when a dinner party goes off the rails. Can the two manage to save the day and their relationship without tearing reality apart?
Okay, so to get it off my chest let me just admit that I didn't entirely like this film. When I was a kid I grew up on classic shows like Looney Tunes, The Smurfs, and Speed Racer. Granted, a few of them HAVE been remastered. It doesn't entirely mean they're better.
I'll give the film its dues in terms of comedy, mind you. Though a lot of the humor was just past its prime and out of place for the current era. On top of that the pacing was slow and hardly progressive. So much so that I was ready to stop halfway through for a nap.
Regretably, the film recieved a slew of less than moderate reviews from well known media outlets. Worst of all the film managed to draw in less than its original budget of $145 million. Forcing Dreamworks animation to take a $57 million write - down for its underwhelming performance.
Alright! This concludes my review of Mr. Peabody and Sherman. As a fan of nostalgia I doubt I can honestly recommend this film. I give it a 6.5 / 10. Hope you guys enjoyed the review.
