Resident Evil: Damnation

HELLOOO and welcome to Cultures Compendium of Reviews! As always, I am Culture Shock. Your guide to all things cultural in Equestria and beyond. Today, we're going under cover and behind enemy lines against an unholy enemy. Before we begin, let's review the rules. First off, all content within this blog is expressly the opinion of its author. It does not, nor should it ever, reflect the overall opinion of the fandom. Lastly, if any of you notice any mistakes, be it typos or otherwise, don't hesitate to let me know. With that said, let's begin. Shall we?

Resident Evil: Damnation is a 2012 Japanese feature - length 3D animated biopunk horror action film by Capcom and Sony Pictures Entertainment Japan. A prequel to the games 6th installment, the film features iconic characters Leon S. Kennedy and Ada Wong together again. Picking up after the first film, Leon S. Kennedy is drafted to help infiltrate a terrorist cell rumored to be using illegal bio - weapons in the midst of a soviet civil war. His mission? Locate the weapon, or Plaga, and destroy it. After a run - in with an old flame Leon is thrust into the chaos. Can one man put an end to a genocidal war?

Okay, first thing is first. I honestly don't know how I feel about this film. Originally, Damnation was the sequel to the 2008 film Resident Evil: Degeneration. Meaning there was a lot I didn't understand till later in the film.

While the story left me confused at times the animation was truely captivating for a CGI film. Reminiscent to the more recent installments, Damnation resembled much of the original details from past games. Minus the player interface of course.

Overall, the film recieved an acceptable reception from fans. Garnering a score of 72% from the popular review forum Rotten Tomatoes. As well as being awarded the 2013 International 3D Society Japan Award for its animation.

All in all, I was pleased with this film. Aside from a bit of confusion at first my only complaint was the constant changes between Ada's POV and Leons. Hopefully in the near future I'll catch the prequel to this film and its upcoming sequel, Resident Evil: Vendetta, as well.

Alright! This concludes my review of Resident Evil: Damnation. Interesting film to watch if you know your facts. Though I wouldn't recommend it for younger viewers. I give this film an 8 / 10. Hope you guys enjoyed the review. Be sure to leave a like if you did. Also, don't forget to follow us for more updates. Got a suggestion for a review? Leave it in the comments below.
