[Season 2] Episode 7: May the Best Pet Win...to the victor goes the spoils

HELLOOO and welcome to Cultures Compendium of Reviews! As always, I am Culture Shock. Your guide to all things cultural in Equestria and beyond. Today, we learn that great things can come in small packages. Before we begin, lets review the rules. First off, all content within this blog is expressly the opinion of its author. It does not, nor should it ever, reflect the overall opinion of the fandom. Lastly, if any of you notice any mistakes, be it typos or otherwise, don't hesitate to let me know. With that said, let's begin. Shall we?

"May the Best Pet Win!" is the seventh episode of season 2 and the 33rd episode overall. Best noted for its title, which is a play on the idiom "may the best man win", a phrase commonly used in the spirit of sportsmanship and good will. The episode starts off with Rainbow Dash enjoying a leisurely nap. Soon after she's woken from a strange dream to find her friends and their pets out on a group pet play date. Not one to be left out, Dash decides its time to find a pet befitting of her speedster lifestyle. With the help of Fluttershy, Dash sets up a seriesof challenges to find her perfect pet. But will she happy with the results?

Alright, so here we have another Rainbow Dash episode, featuring Tank the tortoise in his 1st appearance. It does have its values, what with its lesson and all. But ultimately the worst part of the episode is still Rainbows ego in regards to finding the best pet. Admittedly, a personal bias I have with Dash in general.

I feel like the lesson for the episode is a strong and relatable piece of wisdom. The most important quality in a friend isn't how cool they are or what talents they have. But rather spirit they embody as a person, or in this case as an animal.

This episode was definitely an improvement over Rainbows season 1 escapades. However, her character growth in the beginning and her constant ego trips just irked me. Frankly, in this reviewers opinion, Dash's biggest crime was always been her repetitive need to be in the spotlight. Which, like in the race in this episode, has been her undoing countless times. Thank Luna she improved in season 6.

Alright! This concludes my review of May the Best Pet Win. A cherishable memory and a good reference rolled into one basic episode. I recommend it only as a preference. I give this episode a 7 / 10. Hope you guys enjoyed the review. Be sure to leave a like if you did. Also, don't forget to follow us for more updates. Got a suggestion for a review? Leave it in the comments down below.
