[Season 2] Episode 10: Secret to My Excess... and all it brings

HELLOOO and welcome to Cultures Compendium of Reviews! As always, I am Culture Shock. Your guide to all things cultural in Equestria and beyond. Today, we learn how greed is a dangerous thing. Before we begin, let's review the rules. First off, all content within this blog is expressly the opinion of its author. It does not, nor should it ever, reflect the overall opinion of the fandom. Lastly, if any of you notice any mistakes, be it typos or otherwise, don't hesitate to let me know. With that said, let's begin. Shall we?

Secret to My Excess is the 10th episode of season 2 and the 36th overall. Written by M. A. Larson, the story features young Spike in first episode of the season. After an eventful birthday party Spike begins to go through a strange growth spurt. Unsure of what's causing it, Twilight consults Zecora to find out. Can she and her friends solve Spikes dilemma? Or will Spikes sudden greed doom them all?

Okay. Well, this wasn't an entirely bad episode. It was a step up from "Owls Well That Ends Well" for one thing. But I feel like it was Hasbro's way of igniting the shipping fuel. That and it didn't paint the best image of Spike.

I feel like this episode fit the theme well but also highlighted the negativity of it as well. Greed is an ugly feeling. It can leave you hollow and broken. It's much better to give than to recieve. Because, to quote Spike, generosity and kindness is what leads to true friendship. And that's what's more valuable than anything in the world.

While I can't deny this episode had a meaningful lesson. It doesn't entirely make up for Spike being put in a immature role. It makes him the bad guy in this case and just ruins his credibility as a character. But most of all the episode literally dangled the most obvious right in front of our noses. Talk about rude.

Alright! This concludes my review of Secret to My Excess. An okay episode for Spike. But still not as good as it could have been. I recommend it only for boredom. I give this episode 6.5 / 10. Hope you guys enjoyed the review. Be sure to leave a like if you did. Also, don't forget to follow us for more updates. Got a suggestion for a review? Leave it in the comments below.
