My Little Pony Micro Series #1: Twilight Sparkle
HELLOOO and welcome to Cultures Compendium of Reviews! As always, I am Culture Shock. Your guide to all things cultural in Equestria and beyond. In todays review we're diving into new territory with the first of 10 mini issues featuring our fave ponies. Before we begin, let's review the rules. First off, all content within this blog is expressly the opinion of its author. It does not, nor should it ever, reflect the overall opinion of the fandom. Lastly, if any of you notice any mistakes, be it typos or otherwise, don't hesitate to let me know. With that said, let's begin. Shall we?
Before we get started let me take a moment to welcome all my faithful readers back. It's been one week since our last adventure and you guys have been generously patient with us. I just wanna thank you all and let you know to expect this more often as we move forward. With that said, onto the review.
My Little Pony Micro - Series issue #1 was the first of the short series. Written and drawn by Thomas Zahler it features future princess - to - be Twilight Sparkle. In this issue, Twilight is tasked with assisting the reclusive royal Canterlot archivist, Summer Mane( aka Jade Singer). But could there be more to this cold mare? If so, how will Twilight the secrets hidden underneath Summers rigid exterior?
Alright. So this is the first issue of the My Little Pony Micro - Series. A definite change from the normal continuity in the main series. I'm kinda happy so far with Twilights issue. Though short the story was no less heartwarming and engaging than most multi - issue arcs. Like Reflections and the Nightmare Rarity arcs, just to name a few.
I loved how Zahler draws on his own experience as a writer to build on Summers character. Especially on how tough it is to live up to your own hype after just one publication. Writers, artists, and even animators alike go through the same thing constantly. It's an experience that can leave a person drained, mentally unhinged, and, in Summers case, closed off to the world. Which is why so many brilliant and talented people tend to vanish from obscurity over the course of history. Forced into solitude by an unexpected loss of creativity or inspiration.
Frankly, there weren't any real negative issues to really pick at here. The issue was brief but enjoyable. And although it also featured one of my least favorite princesses, Celestia, I was still happy with the ending. Though I do question some of the sharp angles in the cover arts.
Alright! This concludes my micro - series review. Definitely a comforting change from the normal story and worth a read for anyone. I give Issues #1 a 9 / 10. Hope you guys enjoyed the review.
