[Season 2] Episode 3: Lesson Zero....like the effort they put in it
HELLOOO and welcome to Cultures Compendium of Reviews! As always, I am Culture Shock. Your guide to all things cultural in Equestria and beyond. Today, we learn how punctuality and perfection can sometimes make you a little... unwound. Before we begin, let's review the rules. First off, all content within this blog is expressly the opinion of it's author. It does not, nor should it ever, reflect the overall opinion of the fandom. Lastly, if any of you notice any mistakes, be it typos or otherwise, don't hesitate to let me know. With that said, let's begin. Shall we?
Lesson Zero is a slice of life episode about the purple princess to be, Twilight Sparkle. In it, Twilight spends the day stressing over a ficticious deadline regarding her letters to her mentor, Princess Celestia. Pushed over the edge by her worries and fears, Twilight resorts to dangerous magic to solve her dilemma. But can she handle the repercussions it entails? Or has she let her fears cloud her judgement?
Okay. Third episode in the season and I already found a stinker. As troubling as it sounds to some this episode was just plain aweful. The plot was just silly, the humor was all but stale, and the point of the lesson just makes me cry. To put it mildly, I wished Twilight was sent to magic kindergarten. Maybe then she could understand the concept of sound logic. Sheesh.
Ignoring the cringe part of the episode for a moment I guess I could give credit to the underlying lesson here. Don't let your fears control you. Sometimes we let the most pointless things scare us. But that doesn't mean have to give into them. Better to just shrug them off and move on instead of just panicking. The more you stress, the worse things can become. And then your left with a bigger problem than you started with.
What makes this episode such a pain is the fact that Spike, the baby dragon, was right. But unlike Twilights friends he had the sense to get help before things got worse. Of course all of this wouldn't have happened if it wasn't for one simple thing. Twilights nonsensical OCD. But of course Hasbro just enjoys making light of actual problems like OCD's and attention hungry people. Especially when it makes as much sense as Haim Saban does when he makes a new Power Rangers series. A sad fact to go out on but truthful nonetheless.
Alright! This concludes my review of Lesson Zero. This episode was stupid. Period. Can I recommend it? Not even if Hasbro threatened me too. I give season 2 episode 3 a 4 / 10. Hope you guys enjoyed the review. Be sure to leave a like if you did. Also, don't forget to follow us for more updates. Got a suggestion for a review? Leave it in the comments below.
