[Season 2] Episodes 1 & 2: The Return of Harmony
HELLOOO and welcome to Cultures Compendium of Reviews! As always, I am Culture Shock. Your guide to all things cultural in Equestria and beyond. In todays review, we boldly go where ever brony has gone before. Before we begin, let's review the rules. First off, all content within this blog is expressly the opinion of its author. It does not, nor should it ever, reflect the overall opinion of the fandom. Lastly, if any of you notice any mistakes, be it typos or otherwise, don't hesitate to let me know. With that said, let's begin. Shall we?
The Return of Harmony was the 2 part opener for season 2. Written by co - creator M. A. Larson and directed by Jayson Thiesson it marked the first appearance of the lord of chaos, Discord. Voiced by John de Lancie, aka Q from Star Trek. The story starts off simple as Cheerilee takes her class on a field trip to Canterlot Gardens. One thing leads to another as spat between the CMC ends up freeing the master of disharmony. It's left to Twilight and friends to retrieve the elements before Discord turns things upside down. Can the girls pull together in time to defeat him?
Alright. First episode review since "Best Night Ever" and it's about Discord. First off, yes, I enjoyed an episode written by M. A. Larson. I'll give him credit for what he did with these episodes. And de Lancie does an amazing job as Discord. Especially the way he roles The Riddler with The Joker in one personality.
I loved how the episodes portrayed such a positive message in such an entertaining way. Friendship isn't easy. It can be a dangerous road full of tough obstacles. But it can also be a journey worth fighting for. And as long as you stick together you can weather any challenge.
And now for the shocking part...or rather lack thereof. Yup. There's honestly really that negative about these episodes. Granted, I still don't 100% support Larson as a writer. I'm willing to overlook my own biased opinion for the sake of this review. Don't expect it often.
Alright! This concludes my review of The Return of Harmony. Well worth the watch for best male character. I highly recommend it. I give these two episodes a solid 10 / 10. Hope you guys enjoyed the review. Be sure to leave a like if you did. Also, don't forget to follow us for more updates. Got a suggestion for a review? Leave it in the comments below.
