My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic Issues #55 & #56
HELLOOO and welcome to Cultures Compendium of Reviews! As always, I am Culture Shock. Your guide to all things cultural in Ewuestria and beyond. Today, we're ducking for cover as we learn how the smallest issues can cause a whirlwind of problems. Before we begin, let's review the rules. First off, all content within this blog is expressly the opinion of its author. It does not, nor should it ever, reflect the overall opinion of the fandom. Lastly, if any of you notice any mistakes, be it typos or otherwise, don't hesitate to let me know. With that said, let's begin. Shall we?
Wings Over Yakyakistan is a two - part action drama arc from writer Christina Rice and artist Agnes Garbowska. Starring the usual characters, as well as some returning faces, this takes places after the episode Not Asking for Trouble. The story begins with Pinkie Pie enjoying a Wonderbolts show alongside Rainbow Dash's parents, Bow Hot Hoof and Windy Whistles. While congratulating the team on their performance things take a dangerous turn as dragons suddenly attack the town. With the help of Twilight and the othets the Yaks mount an offensive strike to drive them away. Amidst all the chaos tension begin to flare. Causing young Spike to seek out answers. But can one drake stop a coming war? Or will a long standing promise be the Yaks undoing?
First off, these issues are a tosd up between funny and somewhat disappointing. Although it's good we get to finally get an Ember appearance in the comics. Honestly, part of me was hoping to someday see more episodes or issues involving the dragons and their development since Gauntlet of Fire. Though I really wish it was under better circumstances besides this.
I honestly feel like the lesson here is that you should never hold onto the past. Doing so can have negative effects on the world around you. Leading to very painful consequences. Like how Ember let her tempers regarding her position effect her visions on the past. If she taken time to just open up and talk to the yaks she could have avoided such a disasterous result.
The biggest problem I had with this arc was the negative stereotyping towards the dragons. Even moreso how everyone just to ignore Spikes opinion on it all. All because he's " not much of a dragon ". I really don't think it was all that nice considering how Embers been doing her best to change those notions and make things better for dragons and ponies alike.
Alright! This concludes my review of Wings Over Yakyakistan. While it was nice to see more dragon related content I hope we can see something better for them in the future. I recommend these issues only for all the Spember shippers out there. I give theses two issues an 8 / 10. Hope you guys enjoyed the review. Be sure to leave a like if you did.
