Episode 20: Green Isn't Your Color...Unless You're Lyrish

HELLOOO and welcome to Cultures Compendium of Reviews! As always, I am Culture Shock. Your guide to all things cultural in Equestria and beyond. Today we learn how big opportunities often test even true friendships. Before we begin, let's review the rules. Firstly, all content within this blog is expressly the opinion of its author. It does not, nor should it ever, reflect the overall opinion of the fandom. Lastly, if any of you notice any mistakes, be it typos or otherwise, don't hesitate to let me know. With that said, let's begin. Shall we?

Episode 20: Green isn't Your Color is a slice - of - life drama episode based primarily around the pairing of diva fashionista Rarity and the timid angel Fluttershy. After unexpectedly landing a big break meant for Rarity, Fluttershy is whisked away by star photographer Photo Finish to a frightful career as a fashion model. Unable to open up to the other tension mounts between the two. Nearly shattering their bond as friends.

Honestly speaking, this episode had me semi interested. I think the writing and animation did really well to perfectly capture the lesson the episode was conveying. Though it also helped to highlight the negatives of Rarity and Fluttershy's bond. Rarity being made as the manipulative one and Fluttershy the unwilling pawn. Similar to how most wealthy and beautiful models use their looks and charm to get others to do their bidding.

Speaking of lessons, I have to say this one was really on point. True friends always share how they feel. Jealousy towards another can be a dangerous thing. Especially towards a friend. It's healthier to open up to one another and work through it together. Cuz sometimes you might found out just how silly it can be.

In truth I did like this episode. It was heartwarming and had a great moral. What I didn't like was Photo Finish's personality. She literally embodied everything negative about mainstream pop culture in a convenient Lady Gaga pony package. On top of that Rarity was the one at fault here yet Fluttershy still felt guilty because of it. It's reasons like that which kills them as a legitimate ship in my book.

Alright! This concludes my review of Green isn't Your Color. A decent episode at least. I recommend it mainly to show the ship some love. I give episode 20 an 8.5 / 10. Hope you guys enjoyed the review. Be sure to leave a like if you did. Also don't forget to follow us here for more updates. Got a suggestion for a review? Leave it in the comments below.
