My Little Pony the movie ( 1986 )

HELLOOO and welcome to Cultures Compendium of Reviews! As always, I am Culture Shock. Your guide to all things cultural in Equestria and beyond. Its time to set the dial to reverse as we travel back in time to a land where everything is possible and rainbows always shine. Before we begin, let's review the rules. Firstly, all content within this blog is expressly the opinion of it's author. It does not, nor should it ever, reflect the overall opinion of the fandom. Lastly, if any of you notice any mistakes, be it typos or otherwise, don't hesitate to let me know. With that said, let's begin. Shall we?

Okay... Before I start this... Let me state one thing.... I don't openly hate things... I try to enjoy them as best as I can.... But THIS is giving me waking nightmares as I type....

My Little Pony the movie was the first big film of the MLP franchise. Premiering in 1986 it featured a who's - who of celebrity voice talent like Danny DeVito, Madeline Kahn, Rhea Pearlman, and Tony Randall. The story focused around the original G1 cast as they went up against the living gloop himself, The Smooze.

I'm just gonna say it up front. This film was torture. Painful, horrific torture. How it was never burned during production baffles me. Then again the target audience was usually doped up on so much sugar that pain was irrelevant.

Throughout the entire movie only part gave me SOME relief. I loved the grundles. Trollish characters who were reminiscent of the Fraggles with a 3 Stooges twist. Danny DeVito was born to play the role of Grundle King.

Oddly enough there was a relevant moral to it all. Unity. No one part is better than the others. A lesson that could have saved young Lickety - Split and G1 Spike from the beginning. Fortunately, with teamwork all was made well and peace returned to ponyland. Whooppee....

Aside from everything else I've covered the film suffers from 2 major problems. Severely low budgeting and an overload of musical numbers. I get that the 80's had less than tolerable animation but that doesn't excuse what we got. And I love musicals but I also like an actual story to my films. Even IF the plot makes you regret life...

Alright! This concludes my review. If I could erase this memory from my head...I would. I don't recommend this unless you grew up on the original G1 series. I give the 1986 MLP movie a 2 / 10. Hope you guys enjoyed the review. Be sure to leave a like if you did. Also make sure you follow us for more updates. Got a suggestion for a review? Leave it below in the comments.
