Episode 21: Over a Barrel....and under a bush

HELLOOO and welcome to Cultures Compendium of Reviews! As always, I am Culture Shock. Your guide to all things cultural in Equestria and beyond. Hitch up the wagon and load your rifles cuz it's time for a trip down south. Before we begin, let's review the rules. First off, all contents within this blog is expressly the opinion of its author. It does not, nor should it ever, reflect the overall opinion of the fandom. Lastly, if any of you notice any mistakes, be it typos or otherwise, don't hesitate to let me know. With that said, let's begin. Shall we?

Episode 21: Over a Barrel is a classic Western episode with a pinch of action and drama for good measure. The episode starts with the main 6 on their way to Appleloosa to deliver a prized appletree to Aj's close cousin, Braeburn. Along the way a native tribe of buffalo hijack the cargo with Spike as well. Its up to the girls to save the day and rescue their friends. But there might be more to it than they believe.

Okay so my first impression of this episode is more of a meh. I liked seeing an MLP take on old western style shows. I've just never been a big fan of them. Its fun to watch on occassion but after a while the dialogue gets stale and the action scenes get repetitive. Kind of like a soap opera with nothing but drama scenes.

I did like the initial moral though. Sharing is caring. Its better to work together mutually than independently. Making new friends in the process.

Something that really bugged me about this episode is how both sides just didn't work things out from the start. Sure we would have missed a hilarious gag fight or 2 but it saves a lot of time and effort for both the buffalo and the Appleloosans.

Alright! This concludes my review of Over a Barrel. An okay episode as far as westerns go. I recommend it if you're into them. I give episode 21 an 8 / 10. Hope you guys enjoyed the review.
