My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic issues # 48 - 50

HELLOOO and welcome to Cultures Compendium of Reviews! As always, I am Culture Shock. Your guide to all things cultural in Equestria and beyond. Today we find out what it means to be LEEEEGION. Before we begin, let's review the rules. First off, all content within this blog is expressly the opinion of its author. It does not, nor should it ever, reflect the overall opinion of the fandom. Lastly, if any of you notice any mistakes, be it typos or otherwise, don't hesitate to let me know. With that said, let's begin. Shall we?

Issues #48 - 50, aka the Accord arc, is the 17th arc in the publication. A collaboration between writer Ted Anderson and artist Andy Price. The story mainly focuses around the chaotic god Discord, or rather his harmonious opposite Accord. In the story after recieving a rather rude send off from the main 6 and company a sudden cosmic event alters the lord of disorders personality. Transforming him into the lord of order, Accord. With his new found state of being Accord sets out to rectify his formers misdeeds and set right Equestrias disorderly state. When the former villains goals begin to escalate to dangerous levels its up to the newly reformed Starlight Glimmer to set right the balance of things before it's too late. Can she succeed? Or will Accord acomplish where she failed?

I have to admot this arc was a fun read. It had some interesting elements of action laced with a subtle unpredictable sprinkle of suspense. But that's what you what you get with Discord related arcs and episodes. His character was just written with the uncanny ability to keep fans guessing like that. Even more so in a short story in issue 50 by writer Jeremy Whitley and Jay Fosgitt.

I think the main lesson in this arc is about how sometimes order and chaos can go hand in hand. Sometimes, uncanny elements and imperfections can be the stepping stone to a true balance of harmony and equality. Accords main goals in this arc was to wipe out all imperfections and flaws in society to create a harmonious paradise for all. But without the elements of disorder and chaos a perfect utopia like that is doomed to fail before it ever begins. At least that's the message I feel Starlight was conveying to Accord in the arcs final climax.

The best parts of this arc to me had to of course be the subtle throwback references to past episodes and arcs. It definitely served to remind fans of how far Hasbro and IDW has come since Friendship is Magic began. Though at the same time it was annoying how they played with the notion of how the show and the comics were of the same continuity. Definitely not a fair play on Hasbro's part and I for one hope the next few issues make up for it in a big way.

Alright! This concludes my review of the Accord / Chaos Theory arc. It was great to see Discord get credit with his own arc, even though I'm pretty sure he already had one in the past. I definitely recommend this to all my readers. I give issues # 48 - 50 a 7.5 / 10. Hope you guys enjoyed the review. Be sure to leave a like if you did.
