Episode 22: A Bird in the Hoof...is worth 2 in the pan

HELLOOO and welcome to Cultures Compendium of Reviews! As always, I am Culture Shock, your guide to all things cultural in Equestria and beyond. Today we revisit an old lesson how some things aren't how they seem. Before we begin, let's review the rules. First off, all content within this blog is expressly the opinion of its author. It does not, nor should it ever, reflect the overall opinion of the fandom. Lastly, if any of you notice any mistakes, be it typos or otherwise, don't hesitate to let me know. With that said, let's begin. Shall we?

Episode 22: A Bird in the Hoof is a general slice - of - life episode featuring beloved vet pony, Fluttershy. During a special luncheon with Princess Celestia Fluttershy and gang meet the solar diarchs prized pet. Feeling distressed about the birds disheveled condition Fluttershy opts to take her to nurse her to health. A more difficult task than she expected given the nature of a phoenix.

Okay in general I actually enjoyed this episode. I love Fluttershy as a character and seeing her slowly breaking out of her shell has been an amazing experience. I was also surprised to see that devil Angel Bunny being so contributing to Fluttershy. A rare thing given his dominant relationship with Fluttershy. Most of all it was amazing to see one of my favorite myrhological creatures, the phoenix, brought to life in such a majestic way.

I'm kind of split when it comes to this episodes moral lesson. In a way it's similar to " Bridal Gossip". Where the lesson focused around not judging a book by its cover. At the same time I think the lesson here is that things aren't always what they seem. Fluttershy believed Philomena's act about being sick and thought she was making a difference. In reality she acted without knowing all the facts. Had she gotten everything from the horses mouth, so to speak, she likely would have known about phoenixes and their life cycles.

While I enjoyed a lot of the quirkyness in this episode one thing did grind my gears. The way everypony acted around Celestia. It did nothing but prove how much fans adore a character who does so little to really earn it all. Not really the best picture to paint for ANY character in my opinion.

Alright! This concludes my review of A Bird in the Hoof. A fun episode about a loving character. I recommend this episode to all her fans. I give episode 22 a 9 / 10. Hope you guys enjoyed the review. Be sure to leave a like if you did. Also don't forget to follow us for more updates. Got a suggestion for a review? Leave it in the comments below.
