Space Jam

HELLOOO and welcome to Cultures Compendium of Reviews! As always, I am Culture Shock. Your guide to all things cultural in Equestria and beyond. Time to lace up those Jordans as we take it to the hoop for a looney game of the tune kind. Before we begin, let's review the rules. First off, all content within this blog is expressly the opinion of its author. It does not, nor should it ever, reflect the overall opinion of the fandom. Lastly, if any of you notice any mistakes, be it typos or otherwise, don't hesitate to let me know. With that said, let's begin. Shall we?

Space Jam was a live - action / animated/ sports comedy film set in the mid - 90's. It started a roster of all star talent like Michael Jordan, Charles Oakley, and Larry Bird just to name a few. The film starts with young MJ practicing to someday make it big. Fast forward some years later and our story begins as an alien race called the Nerdlucks arrive on Earth, or rather in it, demanding the surrender of beloved cartoon idols, The Looney Tunes. Unphased by the threat, Bugs and crew challenge the Nerdlucks to a basketball game for their freedom. They get more than they bargained for when those pint - sized aliens steal the talent of NBA's finest. Desperate they seek help from former all star, Michael Jordan. But will he be enough to even the odds?

I loved this film when I was young. Growing up we didn't have the kind of cartoons we have now. The Looney Tunes were an iconic classic for all ages. Unlike these days classic cartoons focused less on actual stories and more on slapstick comedy. To top it off, Michael Jordan was a career legend in the making. In and off the court.

Distributed by Warner Brothers the film boasted a production budget of only 80 million. At the time, concepts like CGI and 3D were still well development. Meaning there were normally a few hiccups in filming like mismatched audio and live action characters not blending into the 3D scenery. Surprisingly though, the film managed to bring in an impressive $230 million at the box office worldwide. Opening #1 in the US.

As someone who group in the 90's this film is definitely a cultural hit for all ages. Whether you're a basketball fan or just a cartoon fanatic Space Jam is a film you and your family will enjoy for years to come.

Alright! This concludes my review of Space Jam. Definitely a favorite from my childhood. I recommend this for any and all to enjoy. I give Space Jam a 10 / 10. Hope you guys enjoyed the review.
